Last year, Southwest Florida Circus Company had the opportunity to support the American Heart Association at three major Southwest Florida events: the Fort Myers Heart Walk, Naples Heart Walk, and the annual Heart Ball gala.
These events may look very different from one another, but they all support the same larger mission: bringing people together to improve cardiovascular health, support lifesaving research, educate communities, and help create longer, healthier lives.
For us, the goal was simple:
Use entertainment to help make important community events feel welcoming, active, memorable, and fun.

What Is the American Heart Association?
The American Heart Association is a nonprofit organization focused on improving heart and brain health and fighting cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Its work includes supporting scientific research, expanding public health education, advocating for better health outcomes, improving access to care, and teaching lifesaving skills such as CPR.
The organization is also the world's largest nongovernmental funder of cardiovascular research.
That mission becomes especially visible through community events such as the Heart Walk and Heart Ball.
What Is the Heart Walk?
The Heart Walk is one of the American Heart Association's signature community events.
It brings together survivors, families, companies, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and supporters to walk together, raise funds, celebrate progress, and encourage healthier living.
Funds raised through Heart Walk help support research, community education, CPR training, and other work aimed at reducing the impact of heart disease and stroke.
The event is also designed around something beautifully simple:
getting people moving together.
Walking is one of the most accessible forms of physical activity, and the American Heart Association notes that regular walking can contribute to better cardiovascular health and an overall healthier lifestyle.
But a Heart Walk is about much more than the walk itself.
It is a community gathering.

Our Role at the Southwest Florida Heart Walks
For the Fort Myers and Naples Heart Walks, our job was to help create an energetic, family-friendly activity area where participants could spend time together before and around the walk.
We provided a combination of interactive entertainment designed to appeal to families and keep the event active.
Face Painting
Our face painters gave children and families another way to participate in the celebration.
Face painting works especially well at community events because the activity doesn't end when someone leaves the chair. Colorful designs travel throughout the event and become part of the atmosphere.

Foam Party Fun
We also created a foam party experience, giving children an energetic activity where they could move, play, and cool off.
Our foam-party services are now provided through our sister brand, but the concept remains the same: create a large, highly interactive activity that gets families participating rather than simply watching.
For a community event centered around health, movement, and bringing people together, it was a natural fit.
Interactive Games, Music and Friendly Competition
We also created an interactive game zone featuring carnival-style activities and DJ'd music.
That experience has since evolved into the traveling carnival game experiences we offer today.
The games gave participants something they could jump into casually while the music helped keep the activity area upbeat and energetic.
For events like Heart Walk, interactive games are useful because guests can participate for a few minutes, move on, return later, or challenge friends and family members.
There doesn't have to be a formal showtime.
The entertainment becomes part of the environment.

Why Interactive Entertainment Worked So Well
The entertainment wasn't there to distract from the Heart Walk's mission.
It helped support the atmosphere around it.
Families had reasons to arrive early.
Children had things to do.
Teams could spend time together.
Participants could socialize before and after walking.
And throughout the event, there was a sense that people weren't simply attending a fundraiser.
They were part of a community celebration.
Great event entertainment should support the purpose of the event, not compete with it.
At Heart Walk, that meant creating activities that encouraged movement, interaction, family participation, and community.
From Heart Walk to Heart Ball
We were also honored to provide entertainment for the American Heart Association Heart Ball, the organization's annual gala celebration.
The Heart Ball has a very different atmosphere from the outdoor Heart Walk.
Instead of a daytime family event, the Heart Ball brings together community leaders, donors, volunteers, survivors, healthcare professionals, and supporters for an evening focused on celebrating progress and raising support for the fight against cardiovascular disease.
Heart Ball campaigns around the country help fund the American Heart Association's work in areas including research, health education, CPR training, advocacy, and access to care.
That meant the entertainment approach needed to change as well.
The goal wasn't to recreate the family activity zone from Heart Walk.
It was to complement a more elegant fundraising environment while helping create a memorable evening for guests.
What the American Heart Association Had to Say
Following the 2026 Southwest Florida Heart Ball, we received a letter from the American Heart Association's Southwest Florida team thanking us for our partnership and contribution to the event.
They shared that the event was a tremendous success and that our work helped contribute to an unforgettable evening for their guests and community.
“Your professionalism, creativity, and commitment to excellence were evident in every detail.”
The letter went on to thank us for sharing our time, talent, and expertise and recognized the role our collaboration played in helping create an inspiring and impactful experience in support of the American Heart Association's mission to improve and save lives.
That feedback means a great deal to us.
Our goal with these events was never simply to provide entertainment. Whether creating interactive family activities at the Heart Walks or helping enhance the atmosphere of the Heart Ball, our role was to support the larger experience the American Heart Association was creating for survivors, families, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and the Southwest Florida community.
We're grateful for the opportunity to contribute and especially honored that the Heart Ball team expressed their desire to work together again in the future.

One Organization, Very Different Event Experiences
This is one of the things we love about event production.
The same organization can have completely different goals depending on the event.
Heart Walk
The entertainment needed to be:
- Family-friendly
- Interactive
- Energetic
- Easy to join and leave
- Appropriate for a large outdoor crowd
Heart Ball
The entertainment needed to complement:
- An evening gala
- Fundraising
- Community leaders and sponsors
- A more formal atmosphere
- The significance of the American Heart Association's mission
There isn't one entertainment package that works for every event.
Successful event entertainment starts with understanding why everyone is gathering in the first place.
What Made the Events Successful?
From an entertainment standpoint, the Heart Walks worked because there were several ways for guests to participate.
People could:
- Get their faces painted
- Play carnival-style games
- Enjoy the music
- Play in the foam
- Spend time with their team
- Walk together
- Meet other families
- Celebrate survivors
- Support an important cause
No single activity had to carry the entire event.
Instead, each element contributed to a larger experience.
That is often one of the most effective approaches for large community events.
Give people several reasons to participate, but make sure everything supports the larger purpose of the day.
Why the Heart Walk Matters
Cardiovascular disease affects families throughout every community.
Heart Walk provides a way for people to respond together.
Some participants walk in honor of someone they love.
Some are survivors themselves.
Others participate through their workplace, healthcare organization, family, or community group.
And the fundraising matters.
Heart Walk is one of the American Heart Association's largest community fundraising programs, helping generate support for scientific research and programs intended to improve and save lives.
It is also an opportunity to remind people that heart health isn't something we should only think about after something goes wrong.
Join a Future Heart Walk
If you've never attended a Heart Walk, consider joining one.
You can participate individually, create a team with friends or family, walk with your company, support another participant, volunteer, or help fundraise.
You don't need to be an athlete.
You don't need to have a personal connection to cardiovascular disease.
You simply need a reason to care about healthier families and healthier communities.
The American Heart Association maintains a Heart Walk finder where you can search for upcoming events and teams in your area.
